Algae Press
Algae Press brings the wonders of algae to the classroom through hands-on science and art. Growing research in academia and private sectors is looking to algae to solve the world’s energy, agriculture and food needs. However children aren’t exposed to algae in the classroom. Learning about the algae at a young age will plant the seed for a new generation of marine biologists; a generation of scientists that not only aim to understand the dynamic ocean, but looks to it for sustainable solutions.
Algae Press provides an interactive class curriculum Ideal for ages 8-12. This curriculum will teach kids about the many uses of algae, ranging form biology to biofuel technology, and give students fun hands on interaction with algae as they create their own algae press masterpiece. We supply all of the materials, and guide students through the easy and fun algae pressing process while teaching them about biology, ecology, conservation, and more.
ABOUT ALGAE PRESS

Connecting the Classroom with Science and Art
Pressing algae connects people to history, the ocean, and science. Many people in the 1800s, including Ellen Browning Scripps, would search the beaches of San Diego for new exciting species of algae to add to their collections. Today, algae plays an important roll in many research projects at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography from studying small single celled algae to the giant kelp forests of California. Algae Press is a non-profit organization created by Dominique Barnes, a Masters of Advanced Studies student in Marine Biodiversity and Conservation at Scripps Institution of Oceanography. Through hands on art and science education Algae Press engages students of all ages promoting marine science and conservation.
