We collect the algae

During a low tide, we comb the beach for pieces of algae that have wash ashore.

We bring the supplies to your classroom

In the classroom we will engage students in a lesson plan following the Common Core Standards. We will discuss the role algae plays in the environment, and encourage students to use critical thinking skills to think through how algae will respond to climate change.  Students will be introduced to the unexpected places you can find algae in your everyday such as ice cream and toothpaste.

STEM to STEAM

Adding art to science, students will press the algae to herbarium paper tapping into their creative side.  The process of algae pressing is similar to pressing flowers or plants.  The materials are reusable and eco-friendly.  After a week, the algae dries to the paper, and we send the pressings to your students.
